" A new indocyanine green fluorescence lymphography protocol for identification of the lymphatic drainage pathway for patients with breast cancer-related lymphoedema "
Summary:Patients: 103 patients with breast cancer related lymphoedema were investigated with indocyanine green lymphography (ICG) to understand their lymphatic drainage post breast cancer. Most patients had received an axillary lymph node dissection as part of their cancer treatment. Results: In the majority of patients the ipsilateral axilla was the most common drainage pathway (67%). Implications: The affected axilla is the most frequent lymphatic drainage route even if a patient has a history of an axillary lymph node dissection. Questions: How does this affect our current teaching and therapy? Do we change treatment protocols based upon this or is more evidence needed?
